In a case involving a body found in a Tesla trunk, chainsaws ordered under a fake name, and a thirteen-to-nineteen-million-dollar record deal as alleged motive, Blair Berk’s defense team pressed the LA County medical examiner on whether Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s wounds could have been self-inflicted. They got a detective to read messages where Celeste referenced harming herself.

Prosecutors mapped the timeline from first contact when Celeste was eleven to a twenty-one-minute window on the night she disappeared. Bodycam from February 2024 shows deputies told Burke she was thirteen. The relationship allegedly continued fourteen more months until she was dead.

Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is held without bail. Celeste was fourteen years old.
