Did Kohberger Forget Their Names On Purpose?

Three and a half years of silence, and this is what Bryan Kohberger chose to say first: the case against him is "a work of fiction." He invited the state to seek the death penalty again. He thanked the people who believe he's innocent. He named the public, the state, his own family, his supporters online. He did not name Kaylee, Madison, Xana, or Ethan. Not once, in the entire statement.
Live, psychotherapist Shavaun Scott and Tony Brueski go through it line by line — how the opening reframes Kohberger as the one who's been wronged, what "my actual innocence is my truth" is actually doing rhetorically, and the new affidavit where he accuses his own defense attorneys of telling him guilt wasn't an important factor in the plea.
Then the conversation turns to where some of that language actually came from. Reporters traced "broken plea" and "clumps of hair" — phrases central to Kohberger's petition — directly to a true crime book, not to any court filing. His own defense team once sent that book's author a cease-and-desist letter. A DNA expert his defense hired had already tested the hair in question and found it consistent with Ethan Chapin's own, according to PEOPLE.
Criminal defense attorney Bob Motta joins to explain what Kohberger is actually facing if a judge lets any of this move forward, and why Steve Goncalves, who fought this plea deal harder than anyone, is now the one saying he wants a trial. It's a live breakdown of a statement built to sound like a man fighting for the truth — and what got left out to make that sound convincing.
