The Lindsay Clancy murder trial reached a point this week that even seasoned court-watchers weren't ready for. Two jurors cried as the medical examiner testified to injuries consistent with asphyxia in two of Clancy's children. Clancy sobbed openly at the defense table, telling the courtroom she couldn't get through it. The judge called multiple recesses to let the room reset. Her own defense attorney, fresh off three hours of aggressive cross-examination of her psychiatrist, asked the medical examiner nothing at all.

And then her husband spoke. Patrick Clancy described the last morning his three children were alive in a way that's split public opinion right down the middle.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at their Duxbury home. Her defense argues undiagnosed postpartum psychosis, layered under a medication history that's genuinely staggering: thirteen psychiatric prescriptions from five different providers in four months, none of them talking to each other, a specialty hospital that allegedly refused to treat her, and journal entries — now part of the trial record — that read like a woman watching herself vanish in real time.

Bob Motta was ten feet from Clancy in that courtroom, watching jurors weigh grief against calculation. This episode breaks down the testimony, the medical paper trail behind it, and the single sentence from a husband that's proving impossible to explain away.
