Nolan Wells' Phone: Did Anyone Official Ever Ask for It?

Not in the first week. Two days after Nolan Wells vanished on Horn Island, and before any autopsy, the Jackson County sheriff's office declared there was no foul play. Nolan's phone was with his family by then, and no agency had requested it. On Hidden Killers Live, ex-FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer and Tony Brueski take on seven weeks of an unexamined phone.

The claim driving this case is that somebody wiped it. Nolan's mother got the device back from his friends within days and says the Snapchat accounts were empty and texts had vanished. The friends maintain they never touched it. A single extraction settles that. Nobody has performed one.

Prosecutors and the family shook hands on a joint exam July 15, at a community college lab, with the FBI as a maybe. No date ever followed. The DA's 48-hour demand landed August 12 with the parents traveling. The family's answer on August 17 was any day through the 21st, with 12 hours' notice. The DA's public statements since haven't mentioned the phone.

Six questions for the chat. How does a test that ends the argument go unrun for seven weeks? If the DA never took custody of the phone, does her grand jury promise even include it? Did Congress, the NAACP, and Al Sharpton get ahead of the evidence? Could the family's subpoenas to five tech companies answer it first? The friends volunteered their own devices, so does anyone in power want this one opened?
