What Option Did Lindsay Clancy’s Lawyer Say Never Came?

Lindsay Clancy did not turn down a plea deal, according to Kevin Reddington. He says prosecutors never offered one.

That means the spectacle we eventually watched was not the result of failed negotiations publicly known to us. The state pursued first-degree murder while the defense pursued lack of criminal responsibility.

Both positions carried enormous consequences.

A first-degree conviction means mandatory life without parole. A finding that Clancy lacked criminal responsibility could instead place her inside the state mental-health system, subject to evaluation and potential confinement.
