A Conversation with Brian Buckmire

Since December of 2024, the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and the prosecution of the man accused of pulling the trigger, Luigi Mangione, has played out in the media and in multiple courtrooms. 

Our guest today has covered this case from the beginning. Brian Buckmire is a defense attorney and ABC News Legal Analyst. He’s also the host of ABC's new podcast series Burden of Proof: Luigi Mangione. It’s the second season of a show that, in its first season, covered the trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs. 

Now, covering Mangione, Brian has sat in courtrooms, read the filings, and talked to the people closest to this case. Just weeks ago, after episodes of the podcast had begun airing, Mangione stood up and pleaded guilty to federal charges, setting off what may be a consequential double jeopardy fight in an already high-profile case.
