Anna Kepner Cruise Ship Murder: What His Mom Filed Eight Weeks Out

Thomas Hudson went to court before the Carnival Horizon ever left the dock. His contempt motion accused Shauntel of withholding their children and refusing him his court-ordered parenting time. His lawyer asked for 140 make-up days — custody exchanges she’d allegedly blocked. Then Anna Kepner was found dead in a cabin his son shared with her on a cruise Thomas says he never approved.

Now Thomas is carrying the cost of his son’s federal murder defense while Shauntel files a child support petition claiming he owes her money. According to court documents, she alleges he missed several months of payments and wants a judge to order him to pay more. Thomas denied every claim. The original order was $2,129 for three kids. One aged out. Timothy went to federal detention. The amount sits at $1,092 for the couple’s nine-year-old daughter — the child Thomas has been trying to get custody of since November 2025.

His February 2026 emergency petition argued that a nine-year-old should not be living with her stepfather where her brother stands accused of killing the stepfather’s daughter. When Anna’s body was found, Thomas offered to come get the girl immediately. Shauntel declined and cited DCF involvement. Christopher Kepner — Anna’s father and Shauntel’s current husband — told reporters he wanted Timothy in “orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.” That’s the household Thomas is trying to remove his daughter from.

Thomas appears to be the only parent cooperating with Timothy’s defense. The court filings he entered into the record — the texts, the custody exchanges, the timeline of who said what and when — are the reason the public knows what happened inside this family after Anna died. The other side has invoked the Fifth.
