Lindsay Clancy's Defense Won't Accept WHAT Deal?!

Lindsay Clancy's mistrial has turned into a public legal chess match, and Kevin Reddington just added President Donald Trump to it. He asked for a pardon even though presidential clemency does not apply to Massachusetts state charges, then explained that he hoped outside attention could help influence how the local case is resolved. 

The move comes after Reddington spent the final stretch of trial attacking the Commonwealth's treatment of Clancy's injuries. Medical testimony described the neck and wrist wounds as superficial, but the second-story fall caused a spinal injury and paralysis. Reddington said prosecutors had tried to use the wound evidence to argue that Clancy's attempt on her own life was fake. 

The jury deliberated for roughly 38 hours over seven days before Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4. Reddington has characterized the split as 11-1 for acquittal based on lack of criminal responsibility, and jurors who later spoke publicly described the same basic divide. District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced a retrial decision. An emergency Supreme Judicial Court bid over the holdout juror failed, and a spectator was arrested after allegedly filming jurors outside the courthouse. 

A presidential request may dominate the headline, but the next enforceable move belongs in Plymouth Superior Court. The September 29 proceeding is set for status, trial assignment, and the defense's Rule 25 request for a required finding of not guilty. That motion asks Sullivan to decide whether the Commonwealth's proof was legally sufficient, rather than asking him to choose which psychiatric experts he personally believed.
