What Mica Miller’s Friend Says She Feared From JP

The Mica Miller case carries a detail from Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife that sits uncomfortably beside the official record. Mica’s friend Bruna Pabon says Mica came into her living room before her death and described a specific fear involving JP Miller and what she believed could happen to her. 

On April 27, 2024, Mica left for what should have been a normal workday. Her divorce attorney has said that the day before, Mica was talking about a future beyond the marriage and sounded ready to begin again. Hours later, Mica was found at Lumber River State Park, where authorities concluded that she died by suicide. 

That ruling is separate from the federal criminal case now pending against JP Miller. Prosecutors allege an eighteen-month course of cyberstalking that included unwanted communications, tracking devices on Mica’s vehicle, more than fifty contacts in one day, interference with her finances, and a tire-deflation device. They also charge him with making false statements to investigators; JP has pleaded not guilty and has not been charged with causing Mica’s death. 

Robeson County authorities later asked the FBI for help, and the federal investigation drew in state and local agencies as well. Miller was released on a $100,000 bond, and the case has moved through several continuances before reaching the October 2026 term.

She also draws the line between evidence supporting the cyberstalking indictment and the questions Mica’s family and friends continue to raise about her final weeks. JP’s case is set for the October 2026 federal court term, where the government will have to prove its allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
