What Did JP Miller Mean by "Protecting" Mica?!

Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski to break down one of the most disturbing alleged themes in the JP Miller case: the use of protective language to justify controlling behavior. Prosecutors say Miller told federal agents that having Mica Miller monitored was about keeping her safe. Shavaun Scott explains why that framing matters, how alleged abusers can sell control as care and why the people around them often adopt the same vocabulary without questioning what it actually covers. 

Then the conversation turns to Solid Rock Church itself. Public reporting in late 2023 described a ministry with about 700 members, a major Highway 17 fundraising push and roughly $5.59 million in real-estate holdings and related assets. By November 2024, the church and school were shuttered, the main campus had been sold, and additional property had been transferred into another entity tied to JP. Former insiders have publicly said they did not receive full financial transparency about what the church owned or how decisions were being made. 

The federal case is narrower but serious. Miller was indicted in December 2025 on one count of cyberstalking and one count of making false statements. Prosecutors allege a pattern of harassment from November 2022 through April 2024 involving unwanted communication, financial interference, tire damage, an intimate image posted without consent and tracking devices placed on Mica’s vehicle. Miller has pleaded not guilty. He denies abuse and has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death. Trial is scheduled for the October 2026 federal term. 
Shavaun Scott keeps the combined episode grounded in behavior, not spectacle. Her focus is on how institutions normalize the controller’s narrative and how easily a community can confuse access, authority and vigilance with love. 

What remains is a church that shrank, assets that moved, a criminal case that is still pending and an explanation — protection — that only sounds comforting until you line it up against the conduct prosecutors actually describe.
