Caleb Flynn Said WHAT About the Open Garage?!

Caleb Flynn's case begins with a sentence that police could test against a physical door. He told a 911 dispatcher somebody had broken into his Tipp City home, shot his wife Ashley, and left the garage open. The call came at 2:31 a.m. on February 16 while the couple's two daughters were also inside the house. 

Ashley Flynn was 37, a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher. Prosecutors allege Caleb killed her and staged the home to resemble a burglary. He has pleaded not guilty, and his defense has argued that authorities focused on him too quickly. 

Trial testimony has now put the garage itself in front of the jury. Ohio BCI Senior Special Agent David Hammond testified that the damage to the garage side door did not look consistent with forced-entry burglaries he had investigated. That creates a direct factual dispute around the story Flynn gave dispatch before officers arrived: was the garage evidence consistent with an unknown intruder, or does it support the prosecution's staging theory?

A Miami County grand jury indicted Flynn on 11 counts, including aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence, and two intimidation counts. The jury will not be deciding whether the 911 call sounded convincing. It will be deciding whether the state can prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt after every word, door, and physical detail is tested in court.
