Bryan Kohberger's lawyer put Judge Hippler's own words in a motion: "faceless coward," "worst of the worst," and the line that nothing redeeming survived his acts. Greg Rauch argues those sentencing remarks and Hippler's refusal to give the defense more time before the July 2, 2025, plea show the judge can't fairly rule on whether that plea was coerced. The hearing on removing Hippler is October 15, 2026, in Ada County, and Hippler presides. Kohberger, who told Hippler under oath that he was guilty of murdering four University of Idaho students, filed a handwritten petition a year later claiming ineffective counsel and a false confession. Prosecutors want it dismissed without a hearing; the court has reserved June 17, 2027, for one anyway. Live listener questions on whether this is strategy or narcissism, what Anne Taylor can now say on the record, and what the families sit through.
