Audio: VP Wani Igga on introduction of Kishwahili in South Sudan

While briefing the SPLM caucus at the National Legislative Assembly on South Sudan’s East African Community membership yesterday, vice president James Wanni Igga said:

“Kiswahili will be one of the languages used there within the [East African] Community, but the main language will be English. Already we are encouraging our children to be taught Kiswahili in the primary [schools]… because we were in some of those meetings… where all the leaders [of the EAC] decided to talk in Swahili. We were all the time asking ‘gali shonu?’(what have they said?)… and those where very important issues… so we have to allow Kiswahili being introduced into our Curriculum…”
