Moderator: Paul O’Callaghan, CEO, BlueTech® Research Panelists: Tim Evans, Principal, Tim Evans Environment & O2 TAG Todd O. Williams, P.E., BCEE, Principal Technologist & Chair of WEF Biosolids Committee, CH2M HILL Andrea Gysin, Commercial Director, EcoGenR8 Ltd.

Sludge treatment and disposal is one of the most significant costs associated with wastewater treatment. Existing outlets, such as beneficial re-use of biosolids in agriculture, are coming under significant pressure and, as a result, there is a growing movement to try and recover energy and resources from waste sludge and treated biosolids. Biogas can be produced from the anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge. A large number of treatment plants use anaerobic digestion as part of the treatment process and as such there is a significant market for biogas-to-energy technology. In the United States, 49 Million MWhr of energy enters the Municipal Wastewater Treatment plants each year in terms of biogas, sludge and carbon dioxide. Of the energy converted into biogas, only a third is utilized while the remaining two-thirds are flared. This international panel of leading consultants, municipalities and technology providers will share their perspectives on current technology and emerging developments in the United States and Europe.

Questions to be answered: What is the economic cut off for using biogas versus flaring biogas? What are the technologies enabling biogas utilization and clean up? Is there an economic case for sludge pre-treatment? What are the drivers and practicalities for sludge pre-treatment in utilities? Is there an untapped market opportunity for small to medium biogas usage? What is the market potential for co-digestion? Is co-digestion economical beneficial only for large-scale plants? How does a utility benefit from co-digestion? Is it economical? What you will learn: Overview of the anaerobic digester landscape in Europe & North America including: size & distribution and how biogas is currently utilized Drivers to generate biogas as a fuel Challenges to biogas conditioning and production rate Impacts to air quality of biogas to energy facilities

Who should attend: Investors looking to this industry Technology providers looking for technology gaps , unmet need & market Utilities who wish to understand the economic & technical issues surrounding biogas utilization
