A full to bursting Barga Jazz Club this evening showed just how much the place has been missed.

The Marco Bartalini Quintet were on stage this evening at the opening of the new autumn season of the Barga Jazz Club.

Each summer the club shuts its doors and switches of the lights until the coming of autumn means that they are back in business again.

Why, you might ask … is it something to do with the fact that the musicians need a holiday ? – no.

Is there a clause in the renting agreement which say that live music cannot be played during the summer months ? – no

Is nobody interested in jazz when its hot ? – no but you are getting warmer.

Believe it or not, the reason the club shuts during the summer is because of the sound proofing across the windows which keeps the majority of the sound where it is supposed to be – inside the club, has to be removed so that the windows can be opened in the summer, otherwise the musicians and audience are all sitting inside the Barga Jazz Sauna and the sound of live jazz is no longer contained and spills out over the whole of Barga Vecchia.

It has to be said that not everybody in the city is a jazz enthusiast and so to “keep the peace” the windows are kept firmly shut, sound proofing in place and once the temperatures start to climb, the place is abandoned until the autumn.
