Acclaimed historian Allan Mallinson explains what caused the outbreak of the #FirstWorldWar and why ordinary men from across #Lancashire and #Cumbria volunteered for military service to protect their country.
The national speaker held a talk in Lancaster to tell local people why he thinks Britain went to war in 1914 and why it infamously wasn't "over by Christmas."
He also explains who he thinks was to blame for the outbreak of war and questions whether it could have been avoided.
