A rare bravery medal awarded to a policeman during World War One has been presented to Lancaster's City Museum.

Police Seargent Thomas Coppard received the honour for his bravery on the night of the White Lund Munitions Factory explosion in 1917.

There has only ever been 25 Silver Edward Medals presented in history and four of them were awarded to people for the bravery they showed in the explosion on the White Lund in Morecambe.

The medal is on display at the City Museum from Friday 14th November.

Education Officer Stephen Irwin has been researching the explosion and tells The Bay's Amy Scarisbrick about some of the extraodinary stories that occurred that night. Audio is property of The Bay/CN Group and has been uploaded for portfolio purposes.
