RSA Weekly Stats 1st April 2015

I’m Professor Alf Nicholson, RCSI Professor of Paediatrics, and this week, I’m reading the weekly numbers.

This week, the number is 36. 36 per cent of all childhood deaths happen on the road. Just take that in for a second.

Losing a child is one of the most painful experiences you could ever have – and there’s literally nowhere more dangerous for a child than the road.

So always think children. Whether they’re the pedestrians you can’t see, or poorly restrained, and in a position to suffer horrible internal injuries, or distracting your focus away from the road – always think of the damage you could do to their vulnerable bodies.

These numbers are real people. Don’t be one of them.
