The authorities in Nigeria have been urged to embrace best practices in the management of refuse, to among other things preserve the groundwater. At a seminar in Lagos , environment experts and engineers noted that the groundwater in Lagos State and other low lying areas in the country, has been contaminated by heavy and dangerous chemicals from refused , allowed to decompose .
