Peace River Regional District could be liable if people get sick drinking untreated water intended for crops

After seven people died drinking water contaminated with E. coli in Walkerton, Ontario in 2000, governments began putting new rules in place to ensure drinking water is safe. But now it's causing problems for the Peace River Regional District. They have several water stations intended for agricultural use, and is therefore untreated. But under new rules if someone were to drink it and get sick, the district could still be liable. A recent referendum to increase taxes in order to treat the water was unsuccessful, and so the district is trying to find a different way to raise the funds. We speak to Karen Goodings, district director for Area B.
