Today, I will write about a very special friend of mine. Her name is Marie, and she lives in Australia. I first met her last year. At the time, she was an exchange student at my high school. I talked to Marie every day, and she understood my English very well. Also, when she smiled at me, I felt very happy.

Yesterday, I received two presents from her. One was a blue shirt. Blue is a perfect color for me, and I like the shirt very much. She also sent me a nice beach towel. I hope that those things were not too expensive for her.

There was a card with the presents, too. It said, “To Masaru, with love.” Now I want to visit Australia as soon as possible. Sadly, however, I have to wait until next March. My mother says that for the next few months I should concentrate on my entrance examination studies.

今日、僕は僕のとても特別な友達について書きます。彼女の名前はマリーといい、オーストラリアに住んでいます。僕は去年、彼女に初めて会いました。その当時彼女は僕の高校の交換留学生でした。僕は毎日、マリーに話しかけたのですが、彼女は僕の英語をとてもよくわかってくれました。また、彼女が僕に微笑みかけてくれた時、僕はとてもうれしく感じました。

昨日、僕は彼女からプレゼントを2つ受け取りました。1つは青いシャツでした。青は僕にぴったりな色で、僕はそのシャツがとても気に入っています。彼女は素敵なビーチタオルも送ってくれました。それらの品が彼女にとって高過ぎなかったならいいのですが。

それらのプレゼントにはカードも付いていました。そこには「マサルへ、愛を込めて」と書いてありました。今、僕はできるだけ早くオーストラリアに行きたいと思っています。しかし、残念ながら僕は来年の3月まで待たなければなりません。母が、これからの数ヶ月間は入試に向けての勉強に集中すべきだと言っているのです。
