EDU 313: Social bookmarking (Pinterest) ('17)

Apr 19, 2017, 05:26 PM

Hey everyone. This week we are going to be looking at a term called social bookmarking. Now some of you may be familiar with that term and some of you may be wondering what it is I’m talking about. Well, this week we’ll dive into that. We’ll look at what is social bookmarking, why might it be helpful in education, and specifically we’re going to be look at a tool called Pinterest.

Now some of you may be active “pinners” using the tool called Pinterest and some of you may have no idea what that term means, but you will after this week. What we’ll look at specifically is how you can use Pinterest and how you can find educational resources to ultimately help the students to better learn the material that you’re presenting in the classroom. Pinterest isn’t just about finding the materials, but also then sharing it with others. Connecting with other educators and sharing resources is a very powerful piece of Pinterest. We’ll also look at the limitations of Pinterest and some copyright concerns that you need to take a look at when you’re using a tool like Pinterest.

Also, we have an assignment this week so when you’re done with the materials in this module, make sure you complete the assingment located in this module. Not only will you find the assignment, but you’ll find a video detailing the assignment there, within the Pinterest assignment. This will help you to better understand what I’m looking for in the assignment.

So again, this week we’re going to be looking at social bookmarking. In particular we’re going to be looking at Pinterest- why you might use it and how it can really aid you in the classroom in connecting you to other teachers. Good luck.
