Fredee Sardais

Episode 17,   Feb 16, 2021, 12:30 AM

This week I’m talking to Fredee Sardais.

Fredee is the founder of Yogi Fredee, is based in Marlow in Buckinghamshire and has been teaching yoga for nearly 20 years. In 2000 she travelled to Australia to complete a 500 Yoga Alliance course and would describe her style as classical Hatha yoga. Fredee went on to study pregnancy and post-natal yoga as well as yoga therapy. In 2012 and 2013 she studied with Matthew Sanford (founder of Mind Body Solutions) to learn to teach adaptive yoga. I’m going to let Fredee explain more about what that is during the podcast but essentially adaptive yoga classes are for people living with mobility disabilities, such as but not limited to partial paralysis, amputation, spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy or visual impairment. On her return to the UK after her first training she set up the first adaptive yoga classes in the country and started offering one to one sessions for different conditions (such as Multiple Sclerosis, cancer, Cerebral Palsy, fybromalgia). Often very moving and inspirational, Fredee will talk to us about her experiences during those sessions and the impact of yoga on some of her clients.

In 2018 she returned to the US to study adaptive yoga again - this time training to teach yoga teachers adaptive yoga across the UK and Europe, as this training programme had previously only been available in the US. In collaboration with one of her students and other trainees of Mathew Sandford, Fredee has set up Adaptive Yoga UK with the aim of establishing and running Adaptive Yoga classes and to support the training of Adaptive Yoga teachers and class assistants in the UK and Europe. So, we’ll find out how all of that is going.

Like all of us Fredee is passionate about sharing yoga with everyone and she’s found it an invaluable tool for her own self care and stability so we’ll be talking more about this and how she has used yoga in her different life stages, from during pregnancy to early menopause.

I’m so pleased to introduce Fredee Sardais to That Yoga Woman’s Podcast. It’s a longer episode but I just loved having this open and honest conversation with Fredee - I couldn’t bear to cut any of it out. So here it is and I hope you enjoy listening.
