7th August 2021 - Discussing Apple's Anti-Paedophilia Measures on LBC

Aug 07, 2021, 02:03 AM

Fevzi Turkalp, the Gadget Detective, joins Clive Bull on LBC to discuss how Apple are to introduce new messaging protections aimed at detecting obscene and/or illegal photos being received, alerting parents when it happens to a minor and blurring the image,
and will be scanning user's devices for such images. While this is arguably a good idea, this raises questions regarding privacy and whether it may not be limited to illegal/obscene images. Also discussed is how other services, such as Google, track our every search and email, monetising the information, and whether there needs to be a legal framework defining what data is ours alone. Plus, are complicated passwords a good idea, GCHQ is saying maybe not, but are they right?
