Mother Stabs Herself And Son | Daily Brief

Mother on the verge of divorce accused of fatally stabbing her 11-year-old son and inflicting stab wounds on herself.

Deputies responded to a stabbing report on Sunday, July 10, in the 3900 block of North Dal Paso, according to a news release from the Lea County Sheriff's Office. In a 911 call, Bruce Johnson Sr. reported that both his son and wife had been stabbed.

Johnson allegedly heard his son screaming while he was asleep. While calling 911, he found his wife, Mary Johnson, unconscious in another room suffering from stab wounds, as well as his son, Bruce Johnson Jr., lying on a bed with stab wounds.

A hospital was reported to have treated Mary Johnson and her son. Mary was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest and later stabilized, according to the Sheriff's Office. KCBD-TV reports that she remains in critical condition at a hospital in Texas.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Johnson Jr. told an investigator at the hospital that his mother stabbed him while he was conscious. Ultimately, Johnson Jr. succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at around 4:19 a.m.

He had been stabbed multiple times, according to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Sheriff's Office reports that Johnson Sr. moved to Hobbs with his son from Oklahoma. In reports, Johnson Sr. believed Mary Johnson abused their son, so she stayed behind.

Mary would become violent with him whenever she mentioned that he wanted a divorce. According to Johnson Sr., it had been approximately 40 days since his wife had seen their son. Before filing for divorce, she moved in with them and spent time with the family.

The Sheriff's Office has issued a warrant for Mary Johnson's arrest for first-degree murder.
