Almost 25 years after a baby's remains were discovered in a campground outhouse, a Wyoming woman has been arrested.

A campground worker found the remains of an unidentified infant in 1997 while emptying a septic pit at the Garnet Lake Campground in Hudson Township of Mackinac County, according to a new release from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators never positively identified the infant, and investigators called him "Baby Garnet." The case eventually went cold.

In the summer of 2017, authorities began reviewing the "Baby Garnet" case, and a genealogist identified the birth mother through DNA testing.

Sheriff's Office investigators followed up on the information and arrested a 58-year-old Wyoming woman. Investigators reportedly went to Wyoming and found "Baby Garnet's" birth mother, and a warrant for her arrest was obtained for open murder.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the mother has been arrested and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan.
