According to reports, a 36-year-old woman tried to kill her boyfriend's 7-year-old son by smothering him with a pillow and blanket.
An officer from the Key West Police Department responded to a report of child abuse allegations on Aug. 7. According to the child's father, he noticed behavioral changes in his son, as well as swollen, irritated eyes when he woke up.
The father began reviewing video footage inside his home, and the recordings allegedly revealed Amber Desirae Pratt covering the child's head and body with pillows and blankets, pushing her weight against him. According to the video, the boy squirmed and struggled to escape the suspect's grasp. He told investigators he couldn't breathe.
According to video footage, Pratt also entered the victim's bedroom while he was sleeping and approached him. A police report alleges that Pratt sprinkled an unknown substance on the victim's head and face area several times, causing the child to react instantly.
Records show Pratt was arrested and booked into Monroe County Detention Center on Aug. 7 for attempted first-degree premeditated murder and child abuse. Her arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 26.
