A farmer from Missouri who shot and killed two brothers from Wisconsin before burning and dumping their remains over a cattle deal has pleaded guilty.

A farmer has confessed to killing two brothers in Wisconsin over a livestock sale.

As reported by the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Garland Nelson pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and the burning and disposal of Nick Diemel and Justin Diemel. Two separate life terms without parole were imposed on him.

According to WDAF-TV, Nelson struck a deal to avoid the death penalty. Nelson agreed to provide feed and pasture for the cattle owned by the Diemel brothers, who ran a business called Diemel's Livestock. Additionally, Nelson has promised to sell lots of cattle and pay the proceeds to Diemel's Livestock, as reported by WDAF.

From November 2018 until April 2019, Nelson was supplied with cattle. WDAF reports that Nelson sold, exchanged, and/or slaughtered a lot of livestock belonging to the Diemel brothers without compensating them.

The Diemels claim that Nelson committed fraud by continuing to send them bills for feed and yardage on cattle that had been sold, swapped, or had died. WDAF says the Diemels paid a July 2019 visit to Nelson in Braymer, Missouri, to collect on more than $200,000 in debt.

According to WDAF, Nelson murdered the brothers in an attempt to conceal his involvement in the livestock fraud.

KMBC-TV reported that the bodies of the brothers were located on Nelson's property and in a livestock trailer in Nebraska.

Nelson admitted to shooting the brothers before putting their bodies in barrels, setting fire to them, and disposing of the ashes in a pile of cow manure on the Nelson property and a bucket of mineral supplement found in Nebraska.

KMBC says Nelson was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle, abandonment of a corpse, and theft of a motor vehicle before he pled guilty.

The Diemel family reportedly won a $2 million settlement from a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Nelson in December 2019, according to WDAF.
