A man in Texas allegedly strangled two newborn babies while his girlfriend was in labor.
A man, age 18, was taken into custody after he allegedly entered a hospital's nursery and began choking infants.
On Monday, October 3rd, officers were dispatched to the Odessa Regional Medical Center due to a disturbance, as reported by the Odessa Police Department. A man "forced his way into the nursery and began assaulting patients and staff," according to the hospital's employees.
According to the police report, 18-year-old suspect Marcus McCowan Jr. was "aggressive toward officers, which led to a physical altercation."
According to the report, McCowan attempted to steal an officer's gun from his holster.
According to the arrest affidavit cited by KMID/KPEJ-TV, the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. while McCowan was visiting the hospital to check on his pregnant girlfriend. According to reports, he went to the nursing station, grabbed an employee by the arm, and uttered a "unintelligible" phrase. Allegedly after the nurse asked him to leave, he ran amok in the hall.
A mother who was holding her newborn claims that McCowan stared at her, prompting her to move the baby. He allegedly ran at the nurses and shoved them as he attempted to enter the nursery.
McCowan allegedly took the newborn he saw outside of the nursery and brought it to the lactation room when he was denied entry to the nursery. His hands were reportedly around the infant's neck when nurses intervened.
A respiratory therapist claims to have seen McCowan enter the nursery, where he then allegedly took another infant and began strangling her. The baby was reportedly shaken by him as well. There was a blue tint to the child's skin, per the affidavit.
It appeared as though he was about to throw the infant to the ground after allegedly telling it to "die." The respiratory therapist successfully brought McCowan to the floor, where the child's head could be shielded.
According to his booking records, McCowan was arrested on multiple charges, including two counts of attempted capital murder, criminal trespass, assault, attempted weapon theft from an officer, resisting arrest, and possession of drugs. The Odessa Police Department stated that "numerous charges are pending."
The victims included two infants, two nurses, and one police officer from Odessa. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts!
