15th October 2022 - Tech News and Reviews on BBC Berkshire

Oct 16, 2022, 11:53 PM

Fevzi Turkalp, the Gadget Detective, joins Bill Buckley on BBC Radio Berkshire to discuss the latest tech news and reviews. This week; 5.3 billion mobile phones will be thrown away this year globally, to a massive detriment to the environment, prompting calls for the mining of e-waste to produce new product as so much of the material is recoverable and recyclable. Plus we could be doing more by selling or handing on our old tech, giving it a new lease of life with somebody else.

Gadget of the Week is the Hotpoint H8 D94WB tumble dryer. This energy efficient tumble dryer features a heat pump, making it more cost effective to run than a condenser model, reducing the price to run by about a third, which can only be a good thing with the cost of electricity rising dramatically. With a 9 kilo capacity, quiet running, sensors to tell when your cloths are dry, and more. Scoring 4.5 out of 5, listen in for the full details.
