Sam Roome: The Daughter & The Parent

Season 3, Episode 111,   May 01, 2023, 03:43 AM

In this episode we speak to Sam Roome who gave up alcohol in the summer of 2020. She didn't have a major rock bottom moment with alcohol, but decided to remove it so that she could be the best parent she could be for her young family.

We've called this episode The Daughter & The Parent because Sam talks to us about what it was like growing up with two alcoholic parents, and how this impacted on her - she said in her original email to us that her childhood had been "torn apart" by alcohol.

She knew that she didn't want her children to have the same experience, and despite becoming a drinker as an adult herself, she always said that she wouldn't let it get to a point where it was out of control.

Sam also talks to us about her daughter Tilly, who has an incredibly rare chromosome disease - Sam wanted to be around as long as possible for her, and to enjoy spending as much time with her and her other children as possible.
