10th June 2023 - Tech News & Reviews on BBC Berkshire

Jun 12, 2023, 07:04 PM

Fevzi Turkalp, the Gadget Detective, joins Fevzi Turkalp on BBC Radio Berkshire to discuss the latest tech news. This week; software used by a large number of UK companies, including Boots, British Airways, and even the BBC, has been hacked with Ransomware and payroll details of their employees stolen. What can any of us do to protect ourselves, or check if our details have already been compromised?

Gadget of the Week is the Iodé OS. This Android based operating system is a 'de-Googled' version which has had all of the tracking and data collection removed, as well as monitoring the permission of any installed apps and allows you to block them. This OS comes preinstalled on the Fairphone 4 smartphone, which also features a modular design allowing for owners to repair and upgrade their phone by swapping out the camera, charging socket and more. Both the OS and the phone score 4 out of 5, more details in the show.

You can hear the Gadget Detective on BBC Berkshire just after midday every Saturday and can follow and contact him on Twitter @gadgetdetective. If you enjoy these shows please consider subscribing and leaving a review, thanks.
