In ons vorige gesprek richtten we ons op mineralenkritikaliteit om de logica achter bevoorradingsrisico en grondstoffenpolitiek te onderzoeken. Samen met Aleksandra Wojewska focussen we in deze aflevering op de component economische belangrijkheid van de kritikaliteitsvergelijking, die het continuüm tussen markten en mineralen weerspiegelt. Door de verschillende actoren die betrokken zijn bij prijsbepaling binnen de grondstoffenmarkt te reconstrueren, onthult ons gesprek hoe kritikaliteit speculatie mogelijk maakt, waardoor lucratieve prijsrisicobeheersingsschema’s ontstaan en tegelijkertijd grondstoffenwinning wordt aangewakkerd.

In our previous conversation, we focused on mineral criticality to examine the logics behind supply risk and resource politics. With Aleksandra Wojewska, in this episode we focus on the economic importance component of the Âcriticality equation, which reflects the continuum between markets and minerals. By retracing the various actors involved in price-setting within the raw materials commodity market our discussion reveals how criticality enables speculation, generating lucrative price risk management schemes while simultaneously driving resource extraction.
