Kendra Duggar: Victim of the System or Something Else?

She was raised inside it. Married into the most famous version of it. Had four children before she turned twenty-eight. And now Kendra Duggar is facing criminal charges of her own while her husband sits accused of a crime that mirrors the very pattern this family has been circling for over twenty years.

Joseph Duggar, 31, is charged in Florida with lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under twelve. He allegedly admitted to the abuse twice — once to the victim's father and once on a detective-monitored call. He has pleaded not guilty. Kendra, 27, faces eight misdemeanor charges in Arkansas — four counts of child endangerment and four counts of false imprisonment — after investigators reportedly found locks on the outside of their children's bedroom doors. Their four children have been removed from the home.

In jailhouse calls, Kendra told Joseph that losing the children was the hardest part. She told him they were her number one priority. She also told him everyone still loves him. And then she told him she hired her own attorney and not to trust anyone.
