Football season is almost here! Fall Camp begins Wednesday for the East Carolina Pirates, and the countdown to kickoff is officially on as ECU prepares to open the 2026 season against Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, September 5th.

On this week's edition of The Sports Objective, we'll preview fall camp, discuss the biggest position battles, identify players to watch, and talk about what Pirate fans should expect over the next month as the team prepares for one of the biggest openers in program history.

We're also excited to welcome special guest Kent Sides, an Alabama alumnus and Crimson Tide season ticket holder. Kent will give Pirate fans an insider's guide to Tuscaloosa, including the dos and don'ts for game day, where to eat, what to see, and how to make the most of the road trip for the season opener.

We'll also continue our discussion on one of the biggest stories in college athletics—the NCAA's decision that could allow members of the 2022 freshman class to receive another season of eligibility. We'll explain what we've learned, including why those student-athletes cannot transfer to another school under the ruling if they remained at their current institution, and what this means for ECU and college athletics moving forward.

In addition, we'll provide an update on the Protect College Sports Act, the bipartisan legislation introduced by Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell. We'll discuss how the proposed bill could reshape college athletics by addressing NIL regulations, transfer rules, revenue sharing, and the future governance of collegiate sports.
