Kevin Reddington asked a state police sergeant whether the prosecution believed a defense psychologist told Lindsay Clancy to say she had heard voices. The question triggered a twenty-minute sidebar and a hearing outside the jury's presence.Clancy faces three first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her children at the family's Duxbury home on January 24, 2023. She has admitted to the killings. Her attorneys argue postpartum psychosis left her unable to distinguish right from wrong. Prosecutors contend she planned the deaths and carried them out with intent.Sgt. Daniel Lawlor had been guarding Clancy's room at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He testified he stayed outside the door while psychologist Paul Zeizel was with Clancy. She used Zeizel's phone to reach Patrick Clancy and reported to him that she had heard commanding voices.Lawlor confirmed under questioning that detective Josh McKelligan raised the coaching theory. He also confirmed no investigation had produced evidence for it. Buckingham denied it reflected the prosecution's thinking and pointed out that theories in active cases change.Later in the day, doctors from the state medical examiner's office testified about the mechanism and timeline of the children's deaths. Reddington chose not to cross-examine. Clancy was escorted from the courtroom after breaking down during testimony. Therapist Latiesha Dukes also told jurors she never saw signs of psychosis or mania across four sessions with Clancy.
