Three healthy kids. A nursing career. A husband who worked from home. From the outside, Lindsay Clancy had everything the culture tells a new mother she should be grateful for. From the inside, she was writing journal entries about drowning. She told her NP she'd "try anything." She told her husband she was having thoughts she'd never had before. She went to emergency rooms, a specialty postpartum program, and a locked psychiatric ward. The system's answer was thirteen medications from five prescribers in four months, none of whom coordinated her care. When Women & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island allegedly said the drugs were the problem, the prescribing provider never returned their call, according to the defense. This episode follows the months before January 24, 2023, through Lindsay's own words read at trial in Plymouth Superior Court and Patrick Clancy's testimony about watching his wife disappear into a condition nobody around her could identify. He testified the day three children died was "one of her best days." Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty. Her defense alleges postpartum psychosis.
