After Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case on September 4, a reporter asked defense attorney Kevin Reddington about the conspiracy theories accusing Patrick Clancy of being the real killer. Reddington said he "certainly doesn't dismiss" the internet investigators and praised their ability to "ferret out facts." When the reporter pointed out that Patrick has been accused of his own children's deaths, Reddington replied "not by me."
Four days later, Patrick's attorney Howard Cooper released a statement calling the online accusations a "relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign" driven by influencers and conspiracy theorists. Cooper confirmed law enforcement has been notified and warned that legal consequences will follow.
Lindsay admitted through her defense that she killed the children. The trial's only question was criminal responsibility. Patrick testified as the prosecution's first witness.
Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski to examine what a defense attorney's refusal to shut down a conspiracy does to the person it targets, how false accusation becomes a business model on social media, and what happens to Patrick Clancy's ability to grieve when the internet turns his life into content.
