Siders 16 Kids: Her Attorney Claims She Can’t Understand WHAT?!

Elizabeth Siders’ attorney says she may not be competent to stand trial. He says she was married at 15, pregnant for two decades, and may not understand the wrongfulness of her own conduct. He’s requested both a competency evaluation and a not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity evaluation.

On September 16, she pleaded not guilty to 23 charges — 19 child endangerment counts and four felony counts involving the alleged abuse of a minor relative who is not one of her 16 children. The alleged conduct happened in 2022, when Elizabeth was 29.

The record her defense has to overcome includes hospital deliveries in three Ohio cities, schooling through 11th grade, two CPS investigations the family evaded by blocking a caseworker and listing a fake Wisconsin address, and an indictment that describes conduct requiring initiative rather than passivity.

Her father-in-law, Gary Siders Sr., was ruled incompetent on September 9 at 73 with memory loss and hearing loss. The prosecution didn’t fight it. Elizabeth is 34. The evaluators’ report will determine whether her claim survives a record that says she had exits for 19 years and allegedly never took one.
