Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 1: What Did the Drone Detect?

Day 1 testimony moved from the bedroom where Ashley Flynn was found to a drone flying above the property later that morning. Together, Alex Huels and Hunter Bradburn gave jurors two very different pieces of the timeline.

Alex Huels, a Tipp City firefighter and paramedic, testified that he entered the bedroom after arriving at the Flynn home.

Huels described Ashley lying on her left side in bed with a towel covering her head. He testified that he removed the towel and observed a penetrating wound to her head.

Huels said Ashley was not moving. He checked for a pulse and found none. According to his testimony, he completed his assessment at approximately 2:42 a.m.

Tipp City Police Officer Hunter Bradburn then testified about his role as a drone pilot.

Bradburn said he deployed the drone to photograph the Flynn property. On cross-examination, he testified that the deployment began at approximately 3:56 a.m., which he described as more than an hour and a half after the incident.

Bradburn told jurors that the only moving heat signatures he observed while the drone was operating were animals.

That qualification on timing is significant because the prosecution and defense disagree sharply about what happened at the Flynn home. The drone provides a view of the property at 3:56 a.m.; Bradburn’s testimony does not establish what may have been present there earlier.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege Caleb staged the home to resemble a burglary after killing Ashley. The defense maintains that an actual home invasion occurred and investigators later blamed Caleb after rushing to judgment.
