Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 7: Investigators Never Ran THIS Test

Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan’s cross-examination gave the defense an opening to ask a simple question about the investigation into Ashley Flynn’s death: what evidence could have been collected but wasn’t?

Morgan testified that police never tested Caleb Flynn for gunshot residue.

The defense asked why. Morgan said investigators did not want to rush to judgment and take Caleb into custody at that stage. Yet Morgan also testified that Caleb’s account had him entering the room within four to six seconds after hearing the shots, and Morgan believed that would have left gunshot residue somewhere on Caleb’s body.

No gunshot-residue testing was ever done.

Morgan also testified that there was no evidence of blood on Caleb’s clothing or in the home’s sinks. Defense counsel challenged portions of the recorded interview where the video appeared not to match the audio and then questioned Morgan about other investigative avenues.

According to Morgan’s testimony, investigators did not examine FLOCK cameras in the neighborhood or around Pastor Jordan’s home. They did not search the fields behind Jordan’s house either. Defense counsel also brought up cold-case units operated by many law-enforcement agencies.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty in the killing of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he staged a burglary after killing her. His defense argues investigators settled on Caleb too quickly.

Morgan’s cross-examination put specific investigative decisions behind that defense argument instead of leaving it as a general accusation.
