Caleb Flynn Court Coverage: Jury Hears Two Completely Different Closing Arguments

Caleb Flynn's jury heard the prosecution and defense take the same trial record and ask them to reach very different conclusions. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Joseph argued that when the evidence is considered as a whole, the case is overwhelming. Defense attorney L. Patrick Mulligan argued that the State never crossed the line from suspicion and circumstantial evidence to proof that Caleb killed Ashley Flynn.

Ashley Flynn was killed at the couple's Tipp City, Ohio home on February 16, 2026. Caleb, 40, has pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges against him, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the scene as a home-invasion burglary. The defense maintains an intruder killed her and says investigators rushed to blame Caleb.

Joseph asked jurors to connect the evidence instead of judging each piece in isolation. Mulligan pushed directly against that method, arguing that the prosecution's evidence remains circumstantial and does not establish that Caleb was Ashley's killer beyond a reasonable doubt.

The defense did concede one major part of the prosecution's narrative: Caleb had an affair. Mulligan's argument was that infidelity may prove betrayal, but the State still has to prove the charged crimes.

“You make the call,” Mulligan told the jurors. After days of testimony, that is now the job in front of them.
