S1 Ep495: Metro Radio - Launch
Enjoy the opening of Metro Radio, from its studios in Swalwell, Gateshead on 15 July 1974. This proud station, the sixth to launch in the ILR network, was to be home for the likes of young Giles Squire, and James Whale.
Metro became a hub of early consolidation, reaching out from the North and acquiring the Yorkshire Radio Network, before being acquired by EMAP, and later Bauer.
