On this episode of the INN we look at the topics of island succession and cultural isolation. With me in the studio is Sac-based media arts expert Sean Christopher and we look at how this magnificent island of lava - the youngest of the Hawaii island and the most southernly as well - were impacted by isolation. How does this create unique ecosystems and how does it create unique culture. I also talk about the effects of island succession, how new species get introduced and how it effects the fragile balance on an island. we talk about happy face spiders, carpenter bees, geckos and the one-of-a-kind Weiku bug that lives in the snow atop Mount Mona Kaea, and feeds off the dead bugs that appear with the snow melt.
