Flag flying over Barga after 153 years

The Grand Duchy of Tuscany flag was the official Flag of the Italian Region of Tuscany during the Italian Renaissance until the unification of Italy. The Grand Duchy of Tuscany was born with Cosimo I and had its most important period under the rule of de’ Medici Family.

As you can hear in the short interview (in Italiano) below with Giacomo Mrakic recorded outside his house this evening, he believes there is a solid reason for flying the flag, it remains to be seen what (if any) is the reaction from the inhabitants of Barga when they wake up in the morning and find the flag over their heads. la ho trovata su Internet e la ho acquistata ed esposta alla mia asta portabandiera. nessuno la produce in Italia. l’ho comprata all’estero, quindi sono il primo Barghigiano sicuramente a possederla dopo 153 anni- Giacomo Mrakic La bandiera del Granducato di Toscana ebbe diverse configurazioni, a seconda del periodo storico e, in particolare, della dinastia regnante. Sotto i Medici (il primo granduca fu Cosimo I) la bandiera era bianca con lo stemma famigliare sovrapposto. Alla loro estinzione (1737), il Granducato passò ai Lorena (conosciuti anche come Asburgo-Lorena), la cui bandiera era gialla con quattro linee nere e caricata dell’aquila bicipite nera imperiale. Nel 1815 la bandiera venne cambiata nel tricolore orizzontale rosso-bianco-rosso austriaco, caricato con lo stemma dinastico. Nel 1840 lo stemma venne accentrato e reso più grande ed elaborato, e la bandiera rimase così fino al 1860, con una breve parentesi nel 1848-1849 quando, in occasione della prima guerra di indipendenza italiana fu scelta come bandiera il tricolore italiano – sia orizzontale che verticale – caricato dello stemma dinastico privato delle decorazioni austriache.
