Students from the Lancaster Royal Grammar School have staged a parade to commemorate the centenary of World War One.

The school's Combined Cadet Force along with the band of the King's Division held the commemoration service at the school's site.

76 boys from the CCF placed a cross in a poppy garden to mark each school leaver that was killed during the First World War.

The school's CCF was formed in the same year as the outbreak of the First World War and now 160 pupils belong to the Army, Navy and Air Force sections, joined by girls from Lancaster Girls' Grammar School.

Student Matty Elderson, who is a member of the CCF and took part in the parade, has a direct link to World War One as his great-grandfather was awarded the Military Cross.

He told The Bay's Amy Scarisbrick about his ancestor's extroadinary story. Audio is property of The Bay Radio/CN Group and has been uploaded for portfolio purposes.
