Episode #27 - Just Prisoners Here

Jul 10, 2013, 06:00 AM

Natalie, Karen and our listener guest host Sarah discuss season 3, episode 6 of Teen Wolf, "Motel California."

Featured Song: "Sleep Paralysis" by Gabriel Bruce

Discussion:

- We're joined by the winner of our guest host competition, Sarah!
- She's in Ireland, and they're having a heatwave.
- Natalie is a snob about dealing with heat.
- The internationals discuss live-streaming Teen Wolf.
- We blame Karen for the USA region-blocking and demand that she fix the situation.
- We did manage to scrape the bottom of the barrel for a few funny quotes from this episode.
- But mainly we wanted to focus on ALL THE TRAUMA AND FEELS of the huge moment between Scott and Stiles.
- We discuss the lyrics of “Hotel California” and what inspiration may have been drawn from the song.
- The initial scene of Alexander Argent's suicide threw us all for a loop.
- What exactly is deal with the motel's suicide reputation? Has there always been a supernatural influence?
- Karen makes the first Buffy reference of the podcast.
- Scott and Stiles's first scene together is the one Dylan O'Brien wrote!
- Stiles still wants Derek to be a bad guy sooooo much.
- What do we think of Stiles's final four list of suspects?
- Natalie makes Karen cry when she admits she now suspects Jennifer Blake.
- Do we think the Darach is a character we've actually met yet?
- We have a spark of genius and work out who the Darach probably is.
- Natalie makes this week's second Buffy reference.
- Now that we've figured it all out, we're done for the season. See ya!
.....
.....
.....
- Just kidding.
- What did we think of the scene that Dylan wrote?
- Natalie goes on a tangental rant about Star Wars that may cost us a few listeners.
- That aside, we think it's some of the show's best and most natural dialogue.
- We research, on air, the background of the whole Star Wars joke, and seriously, LOL.
- Should have Stiles been more insistent about suspecting Matt back in season 2?
- Karen wants to know what the hell Ms Blake thinks is going on.
- Alternately, Nat and Sarah want to know what the hell is going on with Ms Blake.
- Karen is very unhappy with Nat and Sarah.
- Lydia hears dead people!
- A past guest host inspires a new Lydia theory.
- We wanted Boyd backstory – we'd like you to take it away now.
- Did his sister actually die or did she disappear?
- Boyd works at the ice rink. How self torture-y can you get? No wonder he and Derek get along so well.
- Isaac trauma baby please no stop make it stop no.
- Why was Isaac the one werewolf who didn't actually try suicide? We have some different theories.
- Deucalion's conversation with Scott seems to imply that Scott is the heir to Derek's Alpha-hood?
- Well, we guess that means he's definitely in the pack.
- Was this episode's red-eye-flashy moment real or a hallucination?
- DETHAN.
- Ethan hopes Danny is a survivor – we're pretty sure we know what this means :(
- What's Ethan's deal? Was his hallucination some sort of guilt or fear about Aiden and being a twin?
- Why shouldn't have Stiles saved Ethan?
- Team Human! Saving Boyd! Saving Isaac!
- Stiles and Lydia have come a long long way together, through the hard times and the good.
- Faces. Faces everywhere.
- Derek and Ms Blake – what is going on? What makes us suspect that not all is what it seems?
- We examine a very interesting Tumblr post about the couple's interactions so far.
- Scott's attempt at suicide was predicted by the fandom – did we see it coming?
- What exactly was the effect of the wolfsbane – did it give them feelings they wouldn't have naturally, or just take away their coping mechanisms?
- Would lighting the flare not have snapped Scott out of his trance? When we think about the series of events, we come up with an even more horrible conclusion than what appeared on screen, if that's possible.
- Natalie has to apologize for depressing everyone.
- Scott and Stiles's “yellow crayon” moment – bringing it home with this episode's THIRD Buffy reference.
- Has TV had a lack of these “power of friendship” moments?
- Lydia saved Stiles!
- Stiles saves Scott!
- Allison... saves no one?
- The Darach in the fire – who or what do we think it looks like?
- We examine gifs of the thing in the fire live on air.
- Was THAT THING actually even the Darach? What powers does it have?
- Was the bus not even a little bit singed in the fireball?
- Did no one else notice this happening, either? How did Coach spend his night?
- So, the rest of the Alpha Pack don't know that Deucalion was the one who killed Ennis.
- We actually like this, for reasons.
- Those are some pretty nasty options available for Derek.
- Once again, they are yelling about this stuff everywhere in public. STOP.
- Lydia figures out the deal with the whistle – but what sort of wolfsbane is it? How many varieties and different effects are there?
- So Gerard is alive and in some kind of hospice?
- And Chris knew about this?
- Cool.
- Nice.
- Why is Chris getting involved about Deucalion?
- If it's a family vengeance thing, for his uncle, there are already a few werewolves around who have caused some Argent deaths, and he's letting them live.
- Is Gerard the Darach?
- Is Gerard anyone's fave?
- 198 to 201 – that's three suicides, but four werewolves affected. Who were the three intended?
- Does the fact that Ethan was a victim as well mean that whoever caused this situation sees all the werewolves as enemies, no matter which pack?
- All the “fake” deaths seen in the trailer have happened in-show now, so now anyone's death is fair game.
- It's still Teen Wolf Takeover on Hypable – Natalie pimps out her recent post, in which she explores ideas from the Teen Wolf movie that would work in the TV show.
- This includes Scott and Stiles "partaking," and an excellent new job for Uncle Peter.
- It's like 2am for Natalie, so she's gone a bit nuts, but she's found a very special Derek Hale to follow on Twitter.
- Karen will be going to San Diego Comic Con next week!
- Thanks very much to Sarah!
