The Duggar story didn’t begin with Josh’s crimes or Joseph’s allegations. It began decades earlier — with Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) — a movement engineered to control families from the top down. It’s time to confront what this system was built to do, how it operates behind closed doors, and why the Duggars aren’t an anomaly. They’re the blueprint.

At the core of IBLP lies the Umbrella of Authority: fathers hold absolute power over wives, wives over children — and questioning that hierarchy is equated with defying God. That belief isn’t just doctrine. It’s a mechanism of silence. Robin Dreeke and I break down what happens inside households built on unquestioned control — and why, when harm occurs, the response is almost always to hide it.

These children weren’t merely sheltered. They were systematically denied sex education, vocabulary for consent, or even the language to name abuse. According to former members, that ignorance wasn’t accidental — it was intentional. Robin exposes what happens psychologically to a child raised without those tools, and how that developmental void shapes disclosure years, or even decades, later.

Bill Gothard, founder and longtime leader of IBLP, has been accused by more than 34 women of harassment and sexual assault. He’s 91, never criminally charged, and his organization still operates — largely untouched. Robin and I examine how institutions like this survive exposure, recycle power, and evade accountability.

Jill Duggar walked away and publicly condemned the system. Jinger Duggar followed. But former members don’t describe leaving as walking out of a church — they describe deprogramming, rebuilding identity from the ground up. Robin explains what that means clinically, and why society still avoids calling such systems what they truly are.
