The husband at the center of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial testified today, describing the moment he came home to a scene no parent should ever have to describe out loud. Lindsay Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.
Patrick Clancy testified he found his wife outside the home, bloody and broken, after she allegedly jumped from a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt that left her paralyzed from the waist down. He then went inside and found his children in the basement. The courtroom didn't need dramatic questioning to feel the weight of that testimony — the facts alone carried it. Patrick delivered his account without theatrics, which somehow made it land harder.
What the defense is building toward isn't a dispute over what Patrick found — it's an argument about what his wife's mind was doing to her that day. Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, and after her own attempted suicide, Clancy survived paralyzed from the waist down. Patrick has since relocated to Manhattan and spoken to The New Yorker about her mental health in the lead-up to the deaths. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.
