Lindsay Clancy Case: Crime Lab's Hartnett Testifies to Collecting Clancy's Own Blood

Forensic testimony took center stage this week in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, with attorney Kevin Reddington building an insanity defense around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.
Maureen Hartnett, a technician with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab, told the court about the evidence she collected both at the Summer Street home and directly from Lindsay Clancy — including blood evidence drawn from the defendant. This is the kind of testimony that rarely trends, but it's the scaffolding underneath everything the toxicologists and experts will say later. Every claim about what was or wasn't in Clancy's system traces back to a moment like this one — someone in gloves, logging a sample, starting a chain of custody nobody can afford to break.
Prosecutors Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham are methodically assembling that chain. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and remains paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan, where he's spoken publicly about her mental health. The trial continues before Judge William F. Sullivan in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several more weeks.
